Mastopexy in Santo Domingo

Breast lift and reshaping focused on a natural, proportionate result. Dr. Díaz defines the appropriate technique at an in-person evaluation.

Dr. José Miguel Díaz · Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

About the procedure

Mastopexy, or breast lift, corrects breast sagging (ptosis) that can come with pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, or time. The procedure reshapes the breast tissue, removes excess skin, and raises the nipple-areola complex to a higher position.

The technique and incision pattern depend on the degree of sagging and the quality of the skin: incisions may be limited to the edge of the areola or extend vertically and, in some cases, along the fold beneath the breast. A mastopexy on its own does not add significant volume; when more volume is desired, combining it with implants may be considered.

Who it is considered for

  • Patients with sagging breasts or loss of firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes.
  • Nipple and areola sitting lower than desired or pointing downward.
  • A stable weight and good general health.
  • Ideally no plans for pregnancy in the near term, since a later pregnancy can change the result; this is discussed at the in-person evaluation.

Recovery

After surgery, you will wear a supportive, wire-free surgical bra for as long as Dr. Díaz advises. Swelling, tenderness, and discomfort are common and are managed with the prescribed medications.

During the first weeks, it is recommended to avoid lifting heavy objects and wide arm movements, and to return to exercise gradually. Follow-up visits are used to check the incisions and your progress. The breast shape settles over several months and scars mature over time, depending on each case.

How the consultation works

At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, assesses the degree of sagging, skin quality, and breast symmetry, and talks with you about the shape and volume you have in mind. With that information, he defines the appropriate technique and builds a personalized plan. First-time consultations are held Mondays and Thursdays, 11:00am–2:00pm, first-come, first-served. Our team can guide you and coordinate your visit on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

What scars does a mastopexy leave?

It depends on the technique: scars may sit around the areola, around the areola with a vertical line, or also include a line in the fold beneath the breast. Scars tend to fade over the months, though their final appearance varies by patient.

Will I be able to breastfeed after a mastopexy?

In many cases breastfeeding remains possible, but it cannot be assured for every patient. If you are planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, mention it at the consultation.

Can it be combined with implants?

Yes. When more volume is desired in addition to the lift, a mastopexy with implants may be considered. Whether to do both in the same surgery is decided at the in-person evaluation.

How long does the result last?

A mastopexy lifts the breast, but the tissue continues to change with time, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations. Keeping a stable weight helps preserve the result, which varies by case.
