About the procedure
Breast reduction decreases the volume and weight of the breasts when their size is out of proportion or causes discomfort, such as neck, back, or shoulder pain, grooves from bra straps, skin irritation under the breast, or difficulty with physical activity.
The procedure removes breast tissue, fat, and skin, reshapes the breast, and raises the nipple-areola complex. Incisions are usually similar to those of a mastopexy and depend on the volume removed. The aim is a lighter, more proportionate, and symmetrical bust, in harmony with each patient's body.
Who it is considered for
- People with large breasts causing back, neck, or shoulder pain, or other physical discomfort.
- Frequent irritation in the fold beneath the breast, or limits on physical activity.
- A stable weight and good general health.
- Up-to-date breast imaging when Dr. Díaz requests it based on age and history; the recommendation is confirmed at the in-person evaluation.
Recovery
After surgery, you will wear a supportive surgical bra for as long as Dr. Díaz advises. Swelling, tenderness, and discomfort are common during the first days and are managed with the prescribed medications.
It is recommended to avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise during the first weeks, and to resume activity gradually. Follow-up visits are used to check the incisions and your progress. The breast shape settles over several months and scars mature over time, depending on each case.
How the consultation works
At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, talks with you about the discomfort you experience, and assesses breast size, shape, and symmetry. He may also request breast imaging before surgery. With that information, he builds a personalized plan.
