About the procedure
Gynecomastia is enlargement of the chest in men, caused by growth of glandular tissue, fat accumulation, or a combination of both. It can affect one or both sides and, beyond appearance, often causes discomfort with clothing or in everyday activities.
Depending on the composition of the tissue, treatment may include liposuction, direct removal of glandular tissue through a small incision, usually at the edge of the areola, or a combination of both. When there is significant excess skin, a different approach may be needed, which is explained at the consultation.
Who it is considered for
- Adult men with persistent chest enlargement.
- A stable weight; when fat predominates, weight adjustment may be recommended first.
- Medical causes reviewed: some medications, substances, or hormonal conditions can be involved and should be assessed before surgery.
- Good general health; the final recommendation is confirmed at the in-person evaluation.
Recovery
After surgery, you will wear a compression vest or garment for as long as Dr. Díaz advises, to help control swelling and allow the skin to adapt to the new contour. Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common during the first days.
Light activities are usually resumed early, while chest exercise and strenuous activity are reintroduced gradually, as medically advised. The contour becomes more defined as swelling subsides over several months, depending on each case. Follow-up visits track your progress.
How the consultation works
At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, including medications and relevant background, examines the chest to assess the balance of glandular tissue, fat, and skin, and talks with you about your goals. With that information, he defines the appropriate technique and builds a personalized plan. First-time consultations are held Mondays and Thursdays, 11:00am–2:00pm, first-come, first-served. Frequently asked questions
What scars does it leave?
They are usually small incisions, at the edge of the areola or at the liposuction access points, planned to be discreet. In cases with excess skin they may be longer; their final appearance varies by patient.
Can gynecomastia come back?
Removed tissue does not usually grow back, but weight gain, certain medications, substances such as anabolic steroids, or hormonal changes can cause the chest to enlarge again.
Do I need tests before surgery?
In addition to standard pre-operative tests, Dr. Díaz may request further evaluation if he suspects a hormonal or medication-related cause.
Do you treat patients who live abroad?
Yes. The practice sees patients from the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean, and we coordinate the process on WhatsApp before your trip. At the consultation, you will be told how long you should plan to stay in the country for post-operative follow-up.
