About the procedure
Submental liposuction, often called double-chin liposuction, removes fat that accumulates beneath the chin and in the upper neck, which often persists despite diet and exercise and can soften the definition of the profile.
It is performed through small incisions, usually beneath the chin and, in some cases, behind the ears. Skin elasticity matters, since the skin needs to adapt to the new contour. When laxity predominates or there are prominent muscle bands in the neck, liposuction alone may not be enough, and Dr. Díaz will explain the alternatives.

Recovery
After the procedure, you will wear a chin strap or compression garment for as long as Dr. Díaz advises. Swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness in the area are common during the first days.
Light activities are usually resumed early, while intense exercise is reintroduced gradually. Profile definition improves as swelling subsides, over a period of weeks to months, depending on each case. Follow-up visits track your progress.
How the consultation works
At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, assesses the fat beneath the chin, skin elasticity, and the structure of the neck and jaw, and talks with you about the profile you would like. With that information, he determines whether liposuction is appropriate and builds a personalized plan. Is the scar noticeable?
The incisions are small and usually placed beneath the chin, in areas that are not very visible. They tend to fade over time, though their final appearance varies by patient.
What type of anesthesia is used?
Depending on the extent of the procedure and your medical evaluation, it may be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. This is defined at the in-person consultation.
What if I have loose skin on my neck?
Liposuction removes fat but does not, on its own, correct significant laxity. If the skin lacks enough elasticity, Dr. Díaz will explain at the consultation which alternatives suit your case.
Can it be combined with other procedures?
In some cases it is combined with other facial or body procedures, such as blepharoplasty. Whether to combine them is assessed at the in-person consultation.
