About the procedure
Rhinoplasty changes the shape, size, or proportions of the nose to improve its harmony with the rest of the face. It can address the bridge, tip, width, or base of the nose, aiming for a natural result that respects each patient's identity and features.
The procedure works on the bone and cartilage of the nose and may be performed through incisions inside the nostrils or with an additional small incision on the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils. When there are also breathing difficulties, they are assessed during the evaluation, as they may require additional considerations.

- Adults whose facial growth is complete.
- A desire to improve the shape or proportions of the nose relative to the face.

- Clear, realistic expectations about the change sought; the final recommendation is confirmed at the in-person evaluation.
Recovery
After surgery, a nasal splint is usually placed for the first days, and swelling, nasal congestion, and, in some cases, bruising around the eyes are common. Resting with your head elevated and following Dr. Díaz's cleaning and care instructions is recommended.
Over the following weeks, it is best to avoid bumps to the nose, strenuous exertion, and resting glasses on the bridge, as you are advised. Most swelling subsides in the first weeks, but final definition, especially of the tip, can take a year or more, depending on each case. Follow-up visits accompany that process.
How the consultation works
At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, including any prior nasal injuries, surgeries, or breathing difficulties, analyzes the nose in relation to the rest of the face, and talks with you about what you would like to change and preserve. With that information, he builds a personalized plan. First-time consultations are held Mondays and Thursdays, 11:00am–2:00pm, first-come, first-served. Will there be a visible scar?
When the surgery is done from inside the nose, the incisions are not visible. If a small incision on the columella is used, it is usually discreet once mature, though its appearance varies by patient.
When will I see the final result?
The overall shape is visible once the initial swelling subsides, but the nose continues to refine over many months; the tip is usually the last area to settle, depending on each case.
Can rhinoplasty improve breathing?
When there is a functional problem, such as a deviated septum, addressing it in the same surgery may be considered. This requires a specific evaluation at the consultation.
What type of anesthesia is used?
