About the procedure
Abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck, is a body-contouring surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. It is usually considered when there is laxity that does not improve with diet or exercise, often after pregnancy or significant weight changes.
Depending on the case, the procedure may include repairing separated abdominal muscles (diastasis) and repositioning the navel. It is performed through a low incision, planned to be as discreet as possible. The type of abdominoplasty, and whether to combine it with liposuction, is decided at the evaluation.
Who it is considered for
- People with excess abdominal skin or fat that does not respond to diet or exercise.
- Patients with separated abdominal muscles after pregnancy, subject to evaluation.
- A stable weight, close to your usual weight.
- Good general health and willingness to stop smoking as medically advised.
- No plans for pregnancy in the near term; the final recommendation is confirmed at the in-person evaluation.
Recovery
Recovery involves wearing a compression garment and walking early and progressively, with a slightly bent posture during the first days. Temporary drains are placed in some cases. Swelling, discomfort, and a feeling of tightness are common and are managed with the medications Dr. Díaz prescribes.
Follow-up visits allow us to review your progress and adjust your care. Returning to work and physical activity is gradual and depends on each case; abdominal strain and intense exercise are usually resumed after several weeks, as Dr. Díaz advises. The scar matures over time, and its final appearance varies from patient to patient.
How the consultation works
At your first in-person consultation, Dr. Díaz reviews your medical history, examines the skin, fat, and abdominal wall, and talks with you about your goals. With that information, he determines whether abdominoplasty is the right option, whether it makes sense to combine it with another procedure, and builds a personalized plan. First-time consultations are held Mondays and Thursdays, 11:00am–2:00pm, first-come, first-served. Our team can guide you and coordinate your visit on WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the scar?
The incision is usually placed low on the abdomen, planned so that in most cases it is covered by underwear or a swimsuit, and there is typically another around the navel. Its length depends on how much skin is removed, and its final appearance varies by patient.
Can I get pregnant after an abdominoplasty?
It is possible, but a later pregnancy can change the result. That is why it is usually recommended once no further pregnancies are planned; Dr. Díaz will discuss this with you at the consultation.
Can it be combined with liposuction or other procedures?
Yes, it is often combined with liposuction, a BBL, or breast surgery. Whether a combination is safe for you is determined at the in-person evaluation, taking into account your overall health and the surgical time.
When will I see the result?
The change in contour is visible from the first weeks, but swelling subsides gradually and the result settles over several months, depending on each case.
